Corporate Programmes

the red horse speaks offers a powerful and unique approach for organizations seeking to develop their staff. that can be directly applied in the workplace.  Through a series of activities and exercises which require the human teams to work together with the horses to achieve their goal, participants quickly discover how their basic motivations and body language impact those around them – and can affect their performance. There is also plenty of opportunity to discuss how to take the learning back into the workplace.

In designing each programme we work with clients to ensure that they Amec 039get the outcome they want for their team and their business. Although the outcome is serious, the workshops are designed to be enjoyable and fun. Workshops can last either half a day or a full day and can cover a wide range of topics. These can include:

  • Leadership development
  • Developing high performing teams
  • Inproving Communication
  • Sales training
  • Customer services

A workshop with the horses can stand alone as a learning event or can fit into a wider development programme. We are happy to provide a complete programe or to work with the client's own training section to ensure that our work compliments theirs. Recent examples incudes:

  • we delivered a three day leadership programme for a large oil services company which started with a day with the horses followed by two days of facilitated learning.
  • we delivered two days of team effectiveness and planning to prepare for major change within an economic development organisation. This included half a day with the horses.
  • a day with the horses as the start of a three day planning session for a team from an education charity. In this case we facilitated the day with the horses and the team completed the planning work on their own.

For clients who are attending for a second time, we will usually work with different horses and have many more activities to take the learning to a deeper level.

Benefits include:

  • Enhanced communication skills
  • Greater self-awareness leading to a better understanding of others
  • Improved lateral thinking and problem solving ability
  • More effective team working and leadership
  • Memorable experiences and learning that will be remembered long after the event
  • Increased self belief

Following so much positive feedback from this programme, Beth is researching for a PhD. She wants to find out why people learn so much so quickly and in a way that they remember and use it long after the course. The knowledge she is gaining ensures that the environment and the teaching is based on sound principles and is therefore effective. Examples of learning

One senior manager was given an activity to do. He strode up to the horse who turned her butt and looked back at him as much as to say "I don't think so". The man stopped in his tracks and asked "What do I do now?" The discussion that ensued was about the difference between "Ask" and "Tell" and gave him cause to reflect on the way he interacted with his staff. "I wonder if that is what my staff would like to do but are too polite," he mused. Once he approached the horse in a more collaborative manner, she was happy to work with him and they completed the activity. Since then, he has worked more collaboratively with his staff and has also encouraged feedback from them - he acknowledged that the feedback from the horse was the first he had received in many years!

A woman on a leadership development programme learned from the horses that when she "micro-managed" them, they literally had no room to move. When she gave them space, they would follow her even without a lead rope. She became aware that it was when she was stressed or uncertain that she micro-managed whereas when she was confident she gave people more space. Seeing the impact this had on the horses made a significant impact on her and on her development as a leader.

What could you learn that would make a difference to you, your team or your business?
